Today we left the beautiful Venetian apartment to head toward Croatia. Our driver picked us up and took us to the Postojna Caves in Solovenia. The caves are 15 known miles of caves that were discovered in the 17th century. The cave has many chambers all formed by the Pivka River.

The caves also have a full, double rail train system that takes visitors to the heart of the cave. One chamber had a large space and beautiful chandeliers. I figure it was used for big events, even for a unique wedding venue.

The cave also has over 100 different animal species. One animal, their mascot, is a blind salamander. It’s also called a baby dragon or human fish. We saw one that was in an aquarium. We were unable to take a photo but I’m including one from the website.

Once we settled into our hotel rooms, we walked to a nearby waterfront restaurant for dinner. The ambiance was lovely made even better by the company. Each couple shared a seafood plate and we all had more seafood than we could eat. We also enjoyed desserts of tiramisu, chocolate lava cake and espresso. A great evening was had by all.
